DPOrganizer’s 2021 year in review

DPOrganizer’s 2021 year in review

2021’s been a year of constant change – both for DPOrganizer as a company, but also for each and every one of us, as we grapple with ever-changing habits and restrictions.

It’s easy to get caught up in the doom and gloom of newsfeeds when working from home, so we wanted to make sure to highlight some of the best things that have happened at DPOrganizer this year. Because pandemics aside, we’ve been able to get some interesting stuff out the door in the past 12 months.

Watercooler

The Q&A community for privacy professionals was launched in February and thousands of users have visited, asked and answered questions. Almost one year on, there’s still a regular cadence of questions flowing in from users about all kinds of topics – news trends, dealing with subject access requests and more hands-on, operational challenges. Beyond the discussions on the forum, we’re constantly getting positive feedback from customers and partners that this was something they were missing – and though not everyone is asking questions, many still lurk around to see what peers are writing about.

We built a new way to do data mapping

When DPOrganizer was launched in 2016, mapping data from a data subject category was a natural choice for us. However, throughout the years, we’ve heard feedback from some customers and prospects alike that mapping from a business process point of view would be preferable, and we also have learned that offering this would simplify the transition to DPOrganizer from some competing vendors.

Since this is far from a trivial task – essentially requiring our product team to rethink a core element of our entire platform – we took our time to get it right before doing a wide release. But just a couple of months after making it available to everyone, we’re seeing new and old users alike quickly getting a lot of value from it.

Integrations and API

As a part of our mission to help privacy pros make more business-integrated privacy programs, we enabled connections to the most popular business apps this year. Plug-and-play solutions for Teams and Slack as well as the all-in-one connection to Zapier lets anyone automate and simplify their workflows without needing a Computer Science degree. And for those who do have one, they can build whatever they wish with our Open API.

If you want to get some use case inspiration, we held a session this September about some of the hacks that customers are already implementing.

We dipped our toe in physical events again

After an almost fully remote 2020, many of us were pretty excited to get out and meet people again. While we adopted a hybrid approach for everyday work during 2021, getting together for key company and industry events were revitalizing.

Looking ahead

We’ve learned a lot in 2021 – about how a remote-first work culture affects workflows, how important communities are to stay connected, and how revitalising old features can have a surprisingly large impact on users. We’re taking these lessons to heart as we go into 2022, and look forward to working with all of you to deliver an even better product for privacy professionals everywhere.

We wish you all a joyful holiday season and a happy new year!
